Did You Know...

As you can see in the blotter report there has been numerous vandalism that have occurred over
the past couple of weeks. I had one person comment that "It's that time of the year." referring to
Spring and the large number of people out and things getting damaged. I disagree! Whether it is
mailboxes or metal fences, there is no time for this senseless vandalism!

But the act of vandalism that really bothers me is the duck being run up the memorial flagpole. This
was a slap in the face to all of the men and women who served our country. Not to mention the
cruelty to animals. If you have information on either of these crimes please call the VPD.

I was approached by a Vernonia Volunteer Firemen asking me talk about vehicles failing to yield
to fire apperatus. The fireman told me they have had several incidents on Hwy 47 where fire
personnel were almost struck by traffic when drivers did not yield or did not show due caution
when passing a scene. Oregon ORS 811.145, 147, & 150 deal with yeilding to emergency
vehicles and drive near such vehicles. Please keep our firemen, ambulance, and officers safe
when they are trying to save lives.

A quick reminder that there will be a Bicycle Safety Event (Rodeo) on Saturday April 29, 2006 at
Vernonia Middle School. Look for nore details in the next Independent.
