Did You Know...

After waking up to the dusting of snow on Monday morning my wife and I started thinking we were
back in Nebraska during the Spring. The only difference is that the following day would be 80
degrees and there would be tornado and thunderstorm warnings! We definitely don't miss any of that
weather. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of the nice weather to go out and support
our Spring sports atheletes. Our High School and Middle School teams are very competitive and fun
to watch. It means a great deal to them to have community support and attendance at their games.

If you have been following the crime blotters recently, including today's, you can see an increase in
thefts and identification related crimes. All signs point to these crimes being directly related to drug
users. This weekend I took a report of items being stolen from a vehicle on "A" Street. Several
important items were taken from this vehicle including a breifcase. The owner is less concerned
about the other items taken but would like to get the breifcase and the enclosed work documents
back. If you have any information about this theft or find a briefcase please contact the VPD. There
was mention of a possible reward as well.

I also hear there were other thefts in the area during the same time-frame as the theft on "A" Street.
The VPD encourages you to report any thefts no matter how trivial you may think they are. The theft
on "A" Street this appeared to be an isolated incident that may have occurred downtown but having
received information on subsequent thefts, we were able to narrow when it occurred and in what
area. The additional information allows us to pinpoint our investigation and even identify possible
suspects. Even if you do not want an official incident report filed, you can provide the VPD with
information only. The information you provide may be a key lead in an investigation.

As always, remain vigilant in your neighborhood and watch out for your neighbors. Report or make a
note of suspicious activity as well as reporting incidents, even relatively minor incidents. The largest
and most important resource the VPD has is our citizens. What we lack in manpower we
supplement with watchful citizens. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to watch out for your
neighbors.
