Did You Know... |
08-02-07 As Jamboree approaches this weekend I would please ask that everyone be patient when trying to navigate around town. Everyone knows that Jamboree brings increased vehicle traffic, increased motorcycle traffic, and of course lots of pedestrians. The reality is that on Saturday and Sunday there will be no quick trips anywhere in the downtown area. Keep this in mind and know that if you need to be somewhere; leave earlier than normal or take an alternate route. Together we can make Jamboree as safe an fun as it has been the last few years. As always, don't drink and drive and be considerate of others. The 3rd Annual Vernonia Night Out is fast approaching and will be held on August 21st at Anderson Park. Once again we planning on having a free BBQ, Ice Cream, and raffle prizes. If you would like to donate anything (new raffle prize, funds to cover costs, etc) you can contact me at the police station either by phone (503-429-7335) or email: chief@vernonia-or.gov Mark you calendars to bring your family out on August 21st, 5pm to 7pm at Anderson Park to show that Vernonia is united as a community against crime. I recently received a newsletter from the Columbia County Women's Resource Center (CCWRC). The newsletter covered numerous activities the CCWRC has been sponsoring as well as presenting some very shocking facts. Recent statistic report that 1 in 3 women in the world will be raped, beaten, sexually coerced, trafficked or otherwise abused in their lifetime! The CCWRC reminds that domestic violence in general can be: physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological actions or threats, all used to influence and intimidate another person. Domestic violence can happened to anyone regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender. Children growing up witnessing domestic violence are among those most seriously affected by this crime causing numerous social and physical problems. If you are victim of domestic violence or know someone who is, please contact the VPD or the CCWRC at 866-397-6161. |
