Did You Know... |
08-16-07 I hope that everyone had an enjoyable 2007 Jamboree! During my foot patrols I had the opportunity to meet lots of people who all had great things to say about our community. From a law enforcement perspective the 2007 Jamboree was busy but we had no major incidents. Over the three day event there was a total of 34 officers that assisted at one time or another, eleven reports were written by the VPD, around 12 arrests were made and close to 40 traffic stops occurred. All in all the 2007 Jamboree was a safe event and most everyone stayed under control. As with any small community there are those residents and visitors who choose to not respect the property of others and to partake in senseless damage of property. Vernonia had four such incidents in the past two weeks. Someone chose to break several windows behind Washington Grade School and Vernonia Middle School. There was also a large amount of graffiti painted in the mens restroom at Anderson Park and on a sign owned by the Vernonia Ridge Riders. Someone also destroyed two hanging flower baskets on the Rock Creek Bridge, and lastly, someone drove their vehicle through the "Vernonia Welcomes You" banner near the South entrance to town. Vernonia Pride is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) in the hanging basket case. This type of senseless vandalism not only damages property but also the livibility of our community. If you have any information on these cases you are encouaged to call the station at 503-429-7335 or you can email me at <chief@vernonia-or.gov> You can remain anonymous and any information is helpful. DON'T FORGET!! The 3rd Annual Vernonia Night Out will be on Tuesday August 21st from 5pm to 7pm at Anderson Park. We will have free BBQ, raffle prizes, emergency responder vehicles, K9 demos, self defense demos, and much more. Come out with your friends, neighbors, and family to take a stand as a community against crime and violence. |
