11-01-2004 The Vernonia Police Department published a web site this last week. The site can be found at http://vpd.vernonia-or.gov The site is still in development but offers citizens another avenue to contact the department and its officers. The site also describes some of the programs that we offer as well as crime prevention ideas, recent events the VPD has been involved in, links to other agencies as well as helpful contact numbers. There will also be photographs and other details added to acknowledge the departement and the officers who serve our community. A special feature of the web site is a section called "Crime Tips". This is an anonymous way to provide the department with information on crimes, wanted subjects, as well as information that can be passed on to other agencies. After typing the tip the information is emailed to the department from the web server with no name attached. Of course, you are welcome to put contact information into the message or utilize the other email addresses on the site to submit information. Feel free to visit and utilize the site often as I will try to update it monthly. A last word to those of you who removed the stop signs and changed the speed limit sign in the area of "E" & State. Though this seemed like a simple prank it could have had dire consequences. Removal of stop signs plus increasing the speed limit could have spelled tragedy for the residents and children who live in this area. Please use common sense and know that a fleeting moment of fun can have a lifetime of consequences.
