You're Invited to National Night Out
August 2nd, 2005
6pm to 8pm
Vernonia's Anderson Park
On August 2, 2005 the Vernonia Police Department along with the National Association of
Town Watch (NATW) will be participating in the "22nd Annual National Night Out" (NNO)
from 6pm to 8pm at Vernonia's Anderson Park. The NNO is a crime prevention event taking
place across the nation involving over 34 million people in more then 10,000 communities. On
August 2nd we will come together to join forces to promote police-community partnerships;
crime, drug and violence prevention; and neighborhood unity.

This year the NATW national corporate sponsor of NNO is Target. The NATW has also
partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to promote the "Ready"
campaign. Ready is a national effort to prepare Americans for emergencies, from natural
disasters to potential terrorist attacks. As part of the Ready campaign the police department
will distribute information at NNO. Though NNO is new to Vernonia my previous department
in Nebraska has participated for over a decade now. Vernonia is one of thirty (30)
communities in Oregon that is registered to participate in NNO.

For the Vernonia NNO celebration I am hoping to enlist the help of many organizations. I
want the night to be a fun and laid-back atmosphere for everyone who attends. I plan on
having the Vernonia Fire Department, Metro-West Ambulance Service, American Red Cross,
Vernonia Lions Club, and others participating. There will be free BBQ, Raffles, Music, and
other activities for participants. The night will be fun and show the Vernonia is unified in
their fight against crime.

Come out with your family and friends to have fun and take a stand against crime and
violence.
