Did You Know...

The beautiful fall season is upon us with all the leaves changing colors and falling as well as the wet
weather has returned. Please be careful driving and slow down on the roadways as they can be
very slick with moisture and foliage debris. There have been multiple accidents in the area caused
by the slick roads. Watch for children too going to and from school events.

The new school year also means the start of the monthly Drug-Free Community Coalition meetings.
The coalition is a group of community members, schools, and law enforcement joining together to
learn about drugs and how to deal with them in the community. The coalition meets the 2nd Monday
of the month at 12:30pm at the Vernonia School Dist. offices for a business meeting as well as at
7pm at the Vernonia Community Church for a presentation meeting. The November meeting will be
on 14th @ 7pm featuring Judge Wilma Smith from the Warm Springs Reservation talking how Meth
can destroy a community.

On Halloween my family and I will once again be out in front of City Hall giving out candy, stickers,
and other goodies to Trick or Treaters. Here are a few safety tips to help protect your ghouls and
goblins: adults should accompany young children, watch for traffic, use reflective tape or costumes
to be better seen, carry a flashlight or glow-stick, examine all candy before eating it, and be careful
around pets while in costume as they may not recognize your children. For a complete list visit the
VPD website and click the Halloween Safety Tips link.
