Community Closet Project

Prevention Message: Self-Care versus Self-Medication = A Bag of Dignity

Goal: Provide basic care supplies to needy
youth and families

Objectives: To encourage youth to strive for
self care instead of self medication and t
o
afford dignity to individuals in spite of living
circumstances

The Washington Elementary Third Grade Self Managers,
led by David Spackman, came up to the VCLC and put
together forty Bags of Dignity, containing basic toiletry
supplies.

The kids were awesome.  In fact, some of them were Girl Scouts who put together the initial toiletry bags a month ago.  What a great circle of services for them!

Our next step is to distribute these bags to community churches and outreach programs.  Bags can be picked up at the VCLC until May 2010.  Supplies are limited, so please call DeAnna at (503) 369-7370 to reserve enough for your group's needs.

If you want to donate to the Vernonia Community Closet, please do!  Donations can be cash or checks made out to: Kiwanis of Vernonia with a note "Community Closet".  Please drop off your check with any member of the Kiwanis:

  • Marilyn Nicks at Cornerstone Naturals
  • Willow Burch at Vernonia Hardware
  • Pam Weller at Wauna Credit Union
  • Nicole Larke at US Bank
  • Bob Young at City Hall
  • Mike Kay at the Vernonia Police Department
