What Can You Do to Prepare?

Each household should be prepared for future natural disasters or other emergency situations.  Below are websites with lists of tips and suggestions to help you with your preparations.

In 1996, Vernonia spent a week underwater in what
was called a “once in a lifetime event” by many experts.
The experts were proven wrong in 2007 when we
experienced another massive flood.  In 2008, a third
catastrophic flood threatened and we were spared at
the last minute by a change in weather.

The Vernonia Police Department has been working diligently to better prepare ourselves and the town for future flooding and other natural disasters, ensuring the citizens' safety in times of need.  To this end, the Vernonia Police Department has:

taken ownership of Vernonia CERT, training members for use as auxiliary help in emergency situations (CERT website coming soon)

started working closely with the City to form a Emergency Response Committee

received specialized water rescue training and equipment

instituted an early warning communication system using flyers and other means
