Donation Scams
All charities lawfully authorized to solicit funds in Oregon are registered with the Oregon Department of Justice. Charities also file annual reports with the DOJ showing what portion of the revenue is devoted to providing services. Confirm registration by calling (971) 673-1880 or at the
Oregon Department of Justice website.

Consumer Scams
Disaster victims need to exercise caution when contracting for clean up or repair services.
|
|
Avoid promises of immediate, cheap clean up or repairs |
|
|
Do not pay for services up front. Work only with licensed and bonded contractors and landscapers. |
|
|
Check the complaint history for each contractor or landscaper before agreeing to pay for service. |
Contact the
Constructors Contractors Board
at their website or call (503) 378-4621.
Contact the
Landscapers Contractors Board
at their website or call (503) 378-5909.
Solicitors selling emergency relief products door-to-door must register with the Secretary of State's Corporations Division. Confirm registration by calling (503) 986-2200 or visit the
Secretary of State website.
Senate Bill 118 outlaws price gouging on basic products and services during emergency situations. If you suspect, experience or observe price gouging, contact the Attorney General's Hotline at (877) 877-9392, available Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Complaints can also be filed at the Oregon Department of Justice website.
2007 Flood and Recovery
The
December 2007 flood here in Vernonia made national news. Even
better, our recovery efforts made national news as well. Our
heartfelt thanks to those groups who came out to help in the
immediate wake of the disaster, and to those who continue to
volunteer and donate to flood victims.
There is no official
website documenting the destruction caused by the flood and our
recovery efforts. Searches on popular search engines provided
thousands of results.
