The SKID Program simulates drunk driving fatalities
using local students and parents as actors.  The
program is very realistic and provides a vivid image
of the consequences of drinking and driving.  It
demonstrates the lasting effects drunk driving can
have on individuals, families and the community as a
whole.

The SKID Program has been presented at Vernonia
High School twice to date; May 27, 2005 and April
25, 2007.  Both presentations were attended by
both Vernonia High School students and a large
number of citizens.  After each demonstration,
school councilors were made fully available to students who needed time to talk about the event and their reactions to it.

The Vernonia Police Department was able to partner with several local and state agencies to make these events a more lasting, thought-provoking experience for everyone who attended.  Thank you to all of the agencies for their involvement in the Vernonia SKID program, including:

Vernonia Rural Fire District

Metro-West Ambulance Service

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue

Life-Flight

We do intend to continue having demonstrations for our students at Vernonia High School.  Parents and other community members are welcomed.  We will provide dates and times as new demonstrations are scheduled.
