to be more active in the community.  Much of what we accomplish is directly related to
the community's involvement.  Active communication with the citizen's of Vernonia will
give the Vernonia Police Department a more effective means of addressing the needs

The Vernonia Police Department would like to thank everyone who assisted in the creation of this new website.

I am Michael Kay – Interim Chief of Police for the City of Vernonia. I am extremely
honored to be serving this wonderful community in this capacity. I would like to take this
opportunity to welcome you to the Vernonia Police Department Web site.

The Vernonia Police Department is dedicated to providing the finest police service
possible. The staff of the Vernonia Police Department is committed to
core values that
include Teamwork, Respect, Professionalism, Integrity and Excellence. Our
mission is
to proudly serve the citizens of Vernonia, using philosophies of community/police
partnerships, pro-active crime prevention strategies, citizen and community input, and
constant introspection.

I hope the information provided within this site will be a valuable resource to citizens. It
is my desire that you will discover ways in which you can partner with police to prevent
and fight crime in our community.

The Vernonia Police Department is composed of a Police Chief, a Patrol Sergeant, two
Patrol Officers, our K9 “Krueger”, two volunteer office assistants, a volunteer police
auxiliary water rescue specialist and our valuable C.E.R.T Team (Citizen Emergency
Response Team) who proudly serve the over 2,300 citizens of Vernonia. Members of
this department are committed to providing quality customer service. Citizens rightfully
expect prompt and professional service available on their doorsteps.  

In order to continue to provide quality service to the community, I encourage input from
citizens of Vernonia, businesses, civic groups and all others that receive police services
from the Vernonia Police Department.  

I look forward to working together to build more positive community relationships, find
solutions to livability issues, and create avenues for working together to maintain the
safety and well being of our community.
